The annual TOP Photo Competition has been launched today with this year’s theme on the wild side.

The competition, now in its 6th year, is open to all amateur and aspiring photographers across the country. Competition organisers are this year asking entrants to capture Ireland’s “wild side”, in any form that may be.
The 12 winning photos selected will feature in the 2013 TOP Calendar with the overall winner claiming the coveted cover shot.

The winner will also receive a voucher worth €1000, with the runners up receiving a voucher worth €300.

This year, multi award-winning photographer Mark Condren will act as a guest judge for the competition.

Most recently Mark was named the Photojournalist of the Year at the PPAI 2011 Awards. Last year Mark published a portfolio of work entitled “The Guards”, behind the scenes with the men and women of An Garda Síochana.

Condren said: “I am delighted to be involved with TOP’s search for the best amateur photographers in the country. It will be interesting to see how Ireland’s WILD SIDE will be personified through the photography of so many varied people.

“As well as judging I will also be giving out photography tips and tricks on TOP’s Facebook page over the next couple of weeks so make sure to check it out.”

The Great Big Photo Festival is an event being organised and Facilitated by St. Columba’s Parish Church, Kings Road, Belfast. It is a fundraising venture for a team of Parishioners who are heading out to Zambia this summer with CMS Ireland (An Anglican Mission Society). More details on the team are available here.

However it is much more than just a fundraiser – it is about showcasing lots of different people’s photographic talents. We are hoping that camera clubs, professional photographers, hobbyists and ordinary “point ‘n’ clickers” of all ages will hunt through their back catalogue and/or get out and about over the next few months and print out some of their best pictures.

The centre of this festival will be “The Showcase” – Running from Friday to Sunday we hope to have hundreds of photographs mounted and hung around our beautiful parish church – on the theme of “What a Wonderful World”.

We will also be providing the legendary St. Columba’s hospitality to our visitors – tea, coffee and buns will be available throughout and all visitors are welcome.
